Temp insurance for 22 year old

Hi,

Do you know of any companies that offer temp car insurance for a 22 year old? All the ones I can find tend to be from age 25 onwards?

Thanks

Nadia

Nadia,

That's really strange because most companies who offer temporary car insurance take on drivers who are over 21 and since you're 22, you shouldn't be having any problems really. Can you tell me which companies you've contacted so that I don't list the same companies again.

The ones I can remember are tempcover and dayinsure. I've not yet had a chance to look at others but I think they're aimed at either 23+ or 25+.

Some of the insurers have a minimum age requirement which can vary depending on the vehicle you want to insure. Please try insuredaily.co.uk as they provide cover for drivers who are 21 or over unlike the two you've mentioned above.

Let me know how it goes.

Ann-Marie,

For a period of 1-28 days, you can get temp cover. However for longer periods than that, short term car insurance is not applicable. The closest thing you can get is roughly 60 days insurance. You can get a month by month car insurance contract which will allow you to renew on a monthly basis. Therefore you can get your son insured for 2 months. Please have a look at eCar Pay As You Go Insurance policy for more information and to get an online quote.

Conal,

There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to get weekend insurance. The minimum age that insurers are looking for short term insurance policies is 21 and you also need to have at least 1 year driving experience and you fulfil those two requirements perfectly. You may however find that the premiums are not so cheap because of the lack of insurers offering the temporary car insurance cover.
