Was diagnosed with early dementia about 4 months ago. I was on an locked on alzheimers unit for about 2 months.I am at home now because they thought the level of care was too high for me so I was told I can't drive because my insurance would be no good if i had an accident even if it was not my fault. I am independent.

As far as insurance is concerned, if you are not at fault, then it means you are not at fault whether you have a medical condition or not provided you were fit to drive.

When you have a medical condition that could affect your driving, you need to inform the DVLA so that they can make their enquiries to see whether you can continue driving. If your GP says you are fine to drive, then DVLA will allow you to drive and will probably issue you with a new licence that expires in a year's time so that they can re-assess your medical situation again to ascertain whether your condition has become worse or not and whether you are still fit to drive.
