I have 2 years and 9 months without claiming on my insurance. I have just bought another car and want to change companies. If I change companies and then have the policy for 3 months am I then entitiled to three years NCB?

If you change car insurance company, you will not be entitled to the no claims bonus (NCB). Therefore you will have lost the 9 months claims free that you have acquired. The NCB works on a full completed year of no claims basis. So it's either all (12 months) or nothing. It is in your best interest to stay with the same insurance company for 3 more months to get your full 3 years no claims discount (NCD) rather than leave now and lose out as you will be able to state only 2 years worth of NCB with the new insurer.

The only exception to that is for accelerated no claims bonus but this is mostly incentives for young and new drivers where they can acquire a full year's NCB in 10 months or sometimes less.
