I had my car set fire to 8 months into my first year of driving. Due to the high excess and low car value I have decided not to claim on my insurance. Can I continue with my insurance so I will benefit from a 1yr no claims discount or do I need to inform the car insurance company?

The whole point of getting insurance in the first place is to protect you in case of any eventuality. If your car has caught fire and you're not claiming, then you could be driving a car that's unsafe and that's illegal as well because it's not roadworthy. If you're going to buy another car and want to use the 1 year no claims by not claiming, then that's completely upto you I suppose. If you do not inform the insurer, it's your choice but make sure they don't find out.
