Thinking of buying a new car, will I lose my NCD though?

You only lose NCB if you're involved in an accident where you're at fault or if you don't buy car insurance for a period of 2 years (then your current NCD entitlement is removed).
You only lose no claims bonus if you're not insured for at least 2 years, that is, if you do not purchase a car insurance policy in that time period. What happens then is that your previous NCD is discarded and when you decide to get another car in the future, you will start back at zero. Of course, no claims will be reduced or lost if you have a fault accident.
If you are currently using your no claims bonus on a car, then you will not be able to apply that discount to the new car you're buying. You may however decide not to use it on your previous/old car and use it on the new car but you cannot have it on both at the same time.
