Learning to drive in a mobility car, can I get insured?
My mother may be getting a mobility car and I was just wondering if it's possible for me to be insured on the car whilst being a learner? As long as I have a driver with three or more years experience, does any one know if I can drive with a provisional on a mobility car?

Under the motability car scheme, only drivers nominated on the policy can drive the car. There are no restrictions for the customer to drive or learn to drive in the car, but for you, the son, things are different.
You need to be 21 or over if you only have a provisional licence and want to learn driving in the mobility car and you're not the direct customer of the scheme. This assumes all other criteria are being satisfied by the way, that is, you will be supervised when driving and you meet the requirements of being a nominated driver (live within 5 miles of disabled customer address, no endorsements on licence or disqualifications etc).

I have just passed my test I am 17, am I covered to drive my brothers mobility car?
My brother has a mobility car but I am not sure whether I am covered to drive this car on the mobility insurance. My brother lives in independent living now.

You will need to be added on your brother's car insurance. Just ask him to contact his insurer and get you added as a named driver. You'll probably have to pay a fee for that.
Only "permitted drivers" are allowed to drive a motability car, that is, drivers that have been nominated on the policy.

Yes it is perfectly fine. It will not cost anything if there is just him on the insurance. If there is already two people on it then you will have to pay for you to be put on. Alternatively you could call them up and swap with someone that is on the insurance. I have just recently passed and we are waiting for my mum's mobility car to be delivered. Congrats on passing

You can drive the mobility car as long as you are a named driver on the insurance policy. Normally there can only be two persons who can drive the mobility car (a third person can be added at an extra cost though) and if your mother is going to be driving, then she can name you as the second driver. Once this is done, you can then learn to drive in the car whilst being supervised by somebody over 21 and having held a valid licence for over 3 years and you should also be displaying the 'L' plates on the car.
Are you going to be taking any driving lessons from a qualified instructor or just practising with friends/relatives by the way?
