Points on my licence because someone else was speeding in my car
I sold my car to a friend. She drove the car before change of ownership was completed and didn't have any tax and she was speeding as well. Will I get points on my licence?

Hello
I'm 22 years old, I haven't claimed any point on my licence since I passed three years ago.
I'm worried I took my car to a motor electrician to remove my immobiliser but I saw him driving my car over the speed limit. I'm worried that I may get done for speeding because we have speed cameras and spec in our areas.
Many thanks
If you are the registered keeper of the car, then you should receive a letter through the post within two weeks if your car has been caught on camera going over the speed limit. However, the letter will ask you to confirm whether you have been driving the car when the photograph was taken. All you have to do is say it was not you and provide proof that it was with the mechanic at that time.
Sometimes the pictures that are taken are clear enough to show the driver so if it doesn't look anything like you, you have nothing to worry about. One last thing, you may very well not receive any letters at all if no camera caught the mechanic.
Lesley,
If you were still the registered keeper, then it would have been your duty to tax the vehicle which means that you may be fined if the car did not have valid tax. However if you can prove that you were in the middle of changing ownership, then maybe the fine can be billed to your friend's name.
Regarding your friend speeding in your car, if you can prove that you were not driving the car, then you will not get any points on your licence. The speeding reminder will be sent to you if you're still the registered keeper but they will ask you to confirm whether you were the one they caught speeding in the car. You just have to say it was your friend and give them some proof so that your friend is fined for speeding instead of you and points applied to her licence rather than yours.
If you require more help, then it is best if you seek advice from a professional motoring solicitor.
Can an insurance company claim retrospective premiums for my mistake in not declaring a speeding fine even though no claim was made?
