I recently had a medical after being banned for 2 years. My ban is up on 8th March. The DVLA have sent me a certficate which enables me to drive while my medical is still under investigation. I called them today chasing up on my licence and they had told me they had sent a questionaire to my GP to complete? What does this mean? Is it due to abnormal results? I have been a moderate drinker but didn't drink 2 weeks before my medical?

Thanks Kelly

I had not had a drink for the six months before my medical and the magistrates court ordered the removal of the disqualification 7 weeks early. I got the letter permitting me to drive, so I bought a car insured it. I did the medical and had no problem. It was my GP whose comments meant 3 weeks after I got my car my licence was revoked, so the DVLA ADDED 9 months to my ban, against the court order. So am going back to court. How can I be classed as dependent? When I had no withdrawal probs at all? Is unfair. So since I had to lose the car and the monies spent, please wait untill the licence is in your hand. Ian J

Kelly, did you pass your medical?

Kelly,

This is a normal procedure at the DVLA to send a questionnaire to the GP of the person who took the drink drive medical test. Your GP will need to complete this and send it back. It's basically for them to find out from your GP whether he/she thinks whethere you are fit to drive, that's all.

If they've given you a certificate which allows you to drive temporarily prior to getting back your licence, then things must be looking positive for you otherwise they wouldn't even issue such a thing in the first place.
