Is it possible to reduce my driving ban?
I would like some advice here. I was given a driving ban for two years for dangerous driving and failing to provide. I have currently served 5 months of this.
Would I however in your opinion be able to reduce this by any means as my father has difficulty driving now after his leg operation and my mother does not drive so they are depending on me. Even a six months or a couple would make a big difference.
Thanks

For driving bans of 2 years or less, you will have to complete the full term. So you will have to wait until the 2 years are over before your licence will be released to you. Have a look at our article on reducing driving bans for more information.

This is ruining my health
Hi all, think I probably know the answer to this one, but ill ask it anyway. 20/09/2016 I was handed a 22 month driving ban for drink driving. It was commuted to 18 month.....then reduced to 14 months as I was offered the drink driving course. So I have about 10/11 months to go. The drink driving offence was the tip of a very long story...no previous with law enforcement, no driving bans or points. I left the armed forces 2013 after being wounded in Afghanistan, and suffer greatly from PTSD. My wife of 28yrs left me, my girlfriend....left me sometime later. I was having regular flash backs to some of the not so nice things id been involved with and seen. The night in question I was in a night club...the car was parked some distance away. There was an altercation, I fled from the scene, I freaked out jumped in car and drove maybe quarter of a mile before being stopped. I took breathalyser and was twice over limit. Since leaving the Parachute Regiment on return from Afghanistan and subsequent recovery, I started work as an HGV class 1 truck driver....again impeccable record. I was earning 1200 a week self employed, lived in a lovely house with my son. Now I live in a bedsit on 73 pounds per week, and contemplate suicide on a daily basis, my son has had to live with his gf in another part of the country, my world has fallen apart, I cant work, ive tried to find employment, im now 51 truck driving is all I can do. My current situation is ruining my health, and im spiralling downwards, being helped by various charities and living on hand outs. My question is.....could there be any leniency shown? I need to work, for my own pride integrity and health as im fading fast. Or because the original sentence was 22 month even then half would be a year? which would leave me in the same situation? Like I say, im all to aware I probably aware of the answer....but I guess im just hoping

if it is your first offence you may get a chance to go on a d.i.d.s course witch would reduce your ban buy 6months,ask or go and see your solicitor, its better than nothing goodluck.......
Eddie,
The court does not take into account such things. However a drink drive solicitor may present a good case to the court to enable you to get your licence back, so it is best to discuss this with a professional motoring lawyer.
Having previously had a clean licence and no convictions, I was unfortunately banned from driving in May 08 till August 09, for being over the legal drink drive limit. Resulting from my loss of licence, I have had to close my business which has resulted in the loss of my home and I am currently unemployed. Having no income, I am currently unable to pay the court fine or provide financially for my children and I am experiencing extreme hardship.
Rather than remain unemployed and on income support till the end of my ban, what opportunity if any exists for me to appeal to get my licence back earlier to enable me to obtain employment, pay my fine, get off income support and provide for my children?
Would a court consider an application based on previous character, hardship encurred from loss of licence and the genuine desire by me to get off government funding into employment and provide for my children? The reinstatement of my licence would enable me to achieve this.
Rob,
I supposed you have not been asked to do a drink drive rehabilitation course when you were sentenced, right? This course would have enabled you to reduce your driving ban by upto a quarter, in your case, possibly upto 6 months.
Although this course is recommended at the time of sentencing and at the discretion of the judge, you can however get in touch with a drink driving solicitor to explain your situation. If you have solid proof that your parents now rely heavily on your driving ability, you will be able to get the court to re-assess your driving ban. Otherwise, it would be a waste of time and money.
