It seems that you're a young driver - have you completed a Pass Plus course? You can get a really good discount if you do.
Although £3000 is something that I myself was quoted before when I first had to get insurance for my car, I can feel your pain. There are some things that you can do to reduce your premiums as a young driver but don't expect the quotes to drop drastically. You can expect to pay a few hundred pounds less but if you're looking for bigger savings, then you might want to consider becoming a named driver instead. Let me warn you first that if you do decide to go down this route, you cannot and should not be driving your car more frequently than the main driver (maybe parents) otherwise it would be classified as fronting as your insurance would be void. For example if you're taking the car regularly to work and you have an accident, then obviously the insurance will refuse to pay.
However if you can afford it, you just need to bite the bullet and drive safely and you'll be amazed what 1 year no claims discount can do for you.
