Hi I was today involved in a hit and run. I was bumped in the back of my car by a fellow driver who then fled the scene when I asked for his details. I wasn't able to catch his number plate but there were a lot of witnesses however no one stopped to give me their details to hand to the police. This happened in a very busy part of central London just before a no right turn road so surely there would be CCTV. However the police have stated they won't try and obtain the CCTV as it is a minor offence! I can't believe this, how is this fair? I now have damage to my vehicle and don't feel I should have to claim on my insurance. I think the laws around hit and runs are absolutely ludicrous because my bet is the man who crashed into me had NO insurance and probably no licence which is why he ran. The government says it wants to be tough on criminals but the impression I get every time I go to the police is that they just don't care. I feel absolutely violated and upset at the whole ordeal. I was just an innocent person going about my business and had someone crash into me because they weren't being careful. It just seems completely unfair and makes me wonder why people haven't taken the law into their own hands, the police are useless!

I had hit and run on thursday, found his car on friday around the area where it happened! The police said they will deal with the hit and run part and I have to contact the insurers. Doubt anything will actually be done about it though. It's ridiculous. My car has now gone down in value because of some idiot.

It is really ridiculous when you think about it. You pay for car insurance so that if anything happens to your car, you are protected but you cannot even make a claim under these circumstances because your premiums will go up when it's time to renew. How much damage has been done to your car? Have you taken it to a garage to get a repair quote?

If the costs to get your car repaired amount to a lot, then you can get hold of a hit and run lawyer but I doubt you'll need that since you said you don't want to claim on your insurance, so I'm assuming you'll be taking it on you to save you from any hassle. The CCTV is operated by the council if it's on public road, so you can contact the local council where that happened and ask if you can get the CCTV footage. Let me know that you were involved in a hit and run and that it's not fair that you should fork out the money to pay for damages to your car when you were not at fault.
