The last week has seen much of the UK covered in a blanket of snow, though the North put up with much of the harsh weather, as usual the South grinded to a halt because as usual the South cannot cope with this weather. Places that only had a dusting of snow also had to contend with hard frost as this affected many motorists at the start of the day.

Car covers can be a great investment as they will protect your car from damage but will also save time when it comes to snow and frost. As the night sets in and the temperature drops, you will start to see the cars that haven’t moved all day start to frost over; by morning all cars will be identical and motorists will spend at least 20 minutes scraping it off the windscreen and also heating up the car before the commute into work. Some people think that snow is better than frost as you can just brush it off in the morning but this is not always true. Fresh snow is easy as it will fall off but if it was a very cold night or you didn’t clear off the first snowfall, then what is underneath will be very hard to clear.

Sometimes when you leave your car on the driveway for a weekend and then come to use it a few days later, you will find that the door is stuck and forcing it to open can be very dangerous for cars that have plastic handles. The best solution to protecting your car from frost and snow is a durable car cover. Most universal covers are just fine as buying the manufacturers own can set you back around £150 but a universal cover can be as little as £15. If you choose to buy one, then get one that also covers the wing mirrors for a better snug fit.

Most car covers are elasticated and do not need to be fastened in any way but for extra peace of mind and security, you could use twine to secure the cover to the wing mirrors to ensure that it doesn’t fly off. Remember to clear off all frost, snow and ice before covering the car as putting on the cover on top of this will cause the cover to smell because of damp.

Using a car cover during nights where frost and snow are expected will save you time when you need to go out, whether it’s to go to work or at the weekends for your weekly food shopping. Don’t waste your mornings waiting for the car to thaw so you can use it; buy a car cover so you can hop in and out effortlessly.

Car covers and security
Car covers can also deter thefts as many of you will know that thieves take the winter months as an opportunity to steal cars as people leave the keys in the ignition whilst they scrape off the ice and snow. In one week alone as much as 50 cars were reported stolen as people were de-icing their windscreens before setting off to work. If you live up North or your area is predicted to be hit pretty bad by snow, then a car cover is well worth the money.
