When you receive your provisional licence, it will be accompanied by a Driver’s Record, which details the 24 skills tested in the practical driving test. There are spaces for your instructor to fill in as you progress through the levels 1 to 4. When you reach level 5, the instructor provides full details of your abilities and you and the instructor can see at a glance which areas you need to improve. Your instructor will also help with the theory part of the test, but you may want to do some extra practice on your own.

There is a Learner Driver’s Pack which you can purchase at bookstores or online, which has been produced by the Driving Standards Agency personnel who actually compile the theory tests and this can be extremely useful as the interactive programs give you real life practice of the test procedures. It contains official guidelines written by the people who set the tests, and all possible questions until September 2011 are given for you to attempt. Not only that, there is also a full analysis of your answers, so that you can identify your weak areas and work on them, so that you have no fears when it comes to the drving theory test day. The correct answers are explained by the people from the Driving Standards Agency i.e the people who set the test.

When going for the theory test, you will be given multiple choice questions which you answer on a touch screen and the disk in this Learner Driver Pack will give you the nearest possible experience of this part of the test. There is a Hazards Perception element in the theory test and this consists of 14 video clips, one containing two hazards. You need to respond quickly to these developing hazards, as the quicker your response, the more likely it is that an accident can be prevented. The maximum score on each hazard is 5 and you need a pass mark of 44 out of 75 to pass this section of the test, so it’s an important element of the theory test. One of the disks in the set gives you practice in responding to hazards which could easily occur in the course of a day’s driving. This is perhaps the main benefit of buying this earner driver’s pack. You get practice in all test areas, and on the day you will be confident that you know all the answers to Highway Code questions and can respond to the hazardous situations quickly.

There is a voice over for people with reading difficulties or dyslexia, which makes this pack ideal for all. The disk contains guidance on how to recognise hazards and how to respond to them using the computer mouse. Another good point is that you can see a real practical driving test in action, so that you have more of an idea of what you can expect on the day of your test. While you don’t have to buy a pack for learner drivers, it will be useful for you to have an edge when it comes to the tests themselves. Any little thing that brings you closer to passing the driving test should be embraced!

Right learning resources for the driving theory test are really important. even the one driving theory test bundle with highway code, practical test, theory test books and cd is more helpful.
