Hello, does anyone know of any car insurance companies that will take into consideration your driving experience from another country, being new resident to the uk since 2007 and having full uk license since 2007, I am still trying to find an insurance company that would consider past driving as I have had my license since 1982 but the companies I find only recognise the 3 years of full uk license. If anyone can help please let me know, i am not a new driver and don't like that my insurance premium is based on 3 years driving..... Thanks and please help....

I know Churchill does. I am an Australian who originally got a car insurance quote under 'international license' within the first 12 months of arriving in the UK - they considered my 7 year No Claims Discount from my previous Australian insurer (i had to provide proof). I have subsequently got my UK license (as legally required by 12 months) and the NCD continues. My experience to date though is that you become somewhat locked into these insurers.

My insurance is up for renewal and I have tested the market, checked GoCompare etc etc, and the insurance systems simply are not set up to recognise 'exchanged or new' UK licenses with previous driving experience. Hence, you can either lie with the original application and put all your international driving experience (as long as your a 'designated country') under the category of 'full UK' license holder to see the best quotes, then contact the company direct to talk about the nuance of your situation.

This didn't work too well for me, because most of the best prices come from brokers such as RAC who don't have any control over the Underwriting, and they politely say we can't help with this situation and the 'great quote' is effectively null and void.

You don't want to buy an insurance policy without stating all the facts, because as you can appreciate it will come back to bite if involved in a crash.

In short, I have subsequently stayed with Churchill and paid a slightly higher premium comfortable in the knowledge that they know my situation, have proper records, accept my NCD.

Can't provide much help either. I spoke to a few places and apparently only about three companies in the UK take foreign driving experience into account. But, the people I spoke to couldn't tell me who they were. I'm in the same position as you.
