On Saturday I called Halifax and they declined my request to issue me a cover for Serbia. Next stop is esure.
Short term car insurance will usually cover EU countries. For countries not forming part of the European Union, it is more difficult to find cover. Have you checked whether your current insurance company in the UK covers trip to Serbia and Montenegro. Halifax and Esure used to insure their customers going to these places and would provide the Green Card (International Motor Insurance Card) for the foreign travel. Sometimes for a fee, you can have get insured to travel in non-eu countries, so it is in your best interest to check out with your current insurance company first. Otherwise you will need to pay 150 euros at the border and this will give you 1 month car insurance cover although it will be the minimum insurance level required by the law.
