With so many things to organise before the big day, having proper insurance for the wedding may seem unimportant but we take a look at why it could save the day. Every bride's nightmare is that the car will break down, not turn up or crash on the big day. By having wedding car insurance in place you can be sure that you will be covered for pretty much all major catastrophes that may happen relating to the car.

Whereas most people choose to hire a car or fleet of cars for the bride, groom and a selection of wedding guests, there are still some that may choose to use their own vehicles or borrow from a friend or member of family. If you want specific cover that will compensate you for the wedding, then getting adequate insurance for your wedding car is advised.

Why should you get an insurance policy on the car you'll be using for your wedding?

  • If the car breaks down you will be compensated for sorting out last minute taxis
  • If you are using your own car, then your current insurance policy will not be affected should you need to claim
  • If you are using a friend or family members' car, then their insurance policy will not be affected should you need to make a claim
  • Compensation available if you decide to cancel the wedding car

The level of cover will vary depending on the package you choose but the cheapest cover available for wedding car insurance is £19.50 and is very basic in terms of cover. It may be worth looking into wedding insurance as they also cover the cost and damages to hiring a wedding car. Wedding insurance starts from £22.50 and that also includes wedding car cover so it's well worth taking a closer look.

Wedding car companies

If you are a company that hires out wedding cars, you will also need insurance for business purposes. If the wedding cars you hire out are always in demand, then you may be at higher risk of accidents, breakdowns and general wear and tear. Making sure your wedding vehicles are properly insured will protect the business from unexpected bills. You could also sell wedding car insurance policies along with hiring the car; not only will the hirer be responsible for damages but you can also make some money from them as voluntary excess is usually how hire companies make a lot of profit.
