I have been given a drink driving ban for three years. As it is the second time I have been done, I was wondering whether it is posible to get my licence back early. I have been given the opportunity to go on a driver's rehabilitation course. This will knock 9 months off my ban. Is it posible to get any more time knocked off the ban?

Banned from driving for 3 years because of 2nd offence in 10 years, how do I re-apply for licence?

I was banned from driving for 3 yrs in 1996 which was my second offence in ten years. I have never re-applied for license back since but now want to. How do I do this? Hear there is a medical now. As I could have re-applied for my licence back in 1999, does this apply to me? What should I do next?

If your driving ban has expired, then you need to request your driving licence from the DVLA. You should fill out a D1 application form and send the correct fee as well. The application form can be obtained from Post Office branches or by telephoning DVLA or printing it from their website.

Once they receive your application, they will notify you if you need to take a medical test. If you don't require one, then you will receive your driving licence through the post within a couple of weeks.

Good luck with your application and let me know how things progress.

I wasnt there for long and I self discharged. this was about two weeks ago and my ban is duse to fininsh in 3 months. I need to have a medical examination by a doctor. Reduce driving ban for second time offender

I was banned on June 15th 2006 for 3 years for a second time drink drive. I cant remember being asked to do the course at sentencing, however I've now completed over 75% of my ban. I need my licence back asap for a promotion open to me pending getting my licence back! For the last 2 and a bit year I have turned jobs down because of this reason, my whole life has suffered, which not forgetting was the purpose of the ban originally! I would very much appreciate any info to help resolve my predicament.

Many thanks.

David,

You would have been asked about the drink driving rehabilitation course normally at the time of sentencing by the magistrate. If at that time, you had agreed to do the course, you would have had to pay the fees to get enrolled on the course and a certain time period would have been set for you to complete the course. As it stands, I don't think you have been given the option of doing the course by the court.

Therefore, it would be better if you get in touch with a drink driving solicitor and explain that the course would enable you to get the promotion you're after and they will be able to tell you what your next steps are. If you can prove that you badly need your licence back, they might be able to do something for you. So the best thing is to get some drink driving advice from a solicitor specialising in driving bans.

Second drink drive ban, what are the chances of getting licence back early?

Hi I got a ban for 6 years in 2010, it was my 2nd time, 1st time was back in 2008 for one year got it back after six months both times for drink driving. I'm off the drink now since 2010 now is there any way off geting it back sooner now that I'm going to AA meeting just that I've a job lined up as a driver and have been in no trouble with the guards since 2010. If you could help in any way would be very thankful.

Dude, seriously? You should consider getting a job at a car wash if you want to be close to cars because that's as close to a car as I would let you be if it was up to me. once - fair enough, everybody makes mistakes but making the same mistake twice just means you are thick (no offence).

You shouldn't be driving at all. Once is stupid, twice is plain idiocy.

Hi there. I was given a 3year ban on the 19.1.09 and was wondering what would the chances be with me getting my license back after 2 years as i have got a bit of history with drink driving but i feel i have grown up now and its difficult for me to get to and from work so what do you think?

Shaun,

With the drink driving rehab course, your 3 year driving disqualification will be reduced to 27 months (2 years and 3 months). You will however need to serve at least 2 years of the driving ban before you are allowed to request your licence from the court which sentenced you. This means that in case your application is successful, you can get only 3 months off the driving ban. However when appealing to the court, you need to have a solid reason as to why your licence should be returned to you earlier. Bear in mind that you will have to pay court fees and any other expenses that comes along with the appeal process as well. The decision is really upto you.
