If you want to get free car insurance, then most likely you will need to buy a new car to be eligible for it. Many such offers are made throughout the year amongst manufacturers and dealers in order to attract more customers to buy newer car models or to get rid of old stock so that they can make room for the new ones. It is more common to find these announcements in the July/August period because dealers are preparing for the new registration number plate around that time of the year.

7 days free car insurance deals

You can get a 7 day free introduction to Ford Insure when buy a used or new car with them. You will have to call them for an annual quote to activate this though but this will then give you enough time to then arrange for your insurance properly. Peugeot insures you for seven days too when you buy a new car with them and they will even reimburse your cancellation fee should you buy a yearly policy with them when the free days are over.

Things to remember

A new car will cost a lot more than one which has been driven even for just 1 day because once even a few miles are recorded on the car, it's considered used and loses a significant amount of its original value. This is why dealers and car manufacturers will try in many ways to win your business and lure you to buy a completely new car with really juicy incentives which include free car insurance cover.

Many manufacturers have used this tactic in the past and it is quite a good scheme because as a buyer, what you really want is to drive your car as soon as you possibly can and finding the best insurance quote takes a lot of time and if that's included as a bonus, you'd be more inclined to purchase from that particular dealer, right? I know I would...

If you're more into a certain make than another, it might be worth checking the website of that particular car manufacturer to see if there are any offers going on at the moment as new ones crop up all the time.

In most cases, the level of cover for the one year free car insurance will be comprehensive as you're buying a new car and it would be stupid to have it any other way. Driveaway insurance aka 7 days free is usually offered to allow you to drive the car from the showroom to your home fully insured, without which many potential buyers will be put off. This comes in the form of a cover note which your dealer will show you and gives you a week's time to sort things out.

Although obvious, please remember to check the tiny print to know all the conditions attached to the offer. Usually restrictions are put on the driver's age and licence status but sometimes who is actually insured and excess limits can be specified as well. So check these thoroughly.

Bryan,

There are two things you can do:

  1. Look for deals on new cars offer a year's free insurance (there are many deals on new cars at the moment because of the recession)

  2. Sign up with youngmarmalade.co.uk and buy a new/nearly new car. It is a combined car purchase and insurance scheme especially useful for young drivers.
